VYX Systems is a startup based out of the Basement Program at the University of California, San Diego. The venture is a sustainability project aimed at correcting the current system of plastic recycling through targeting businesses with excess plastic waste. The launch of their first product line, VYX Surf, will consist of surf accessories with room for expansion into other industries. We worked with VYX to create a brand and website that was professional enough to stand alongside other manufacturing companies yet spoke to the founder’s liveliness and fondness for the environment and surf culture. One of our goals was to hone how they visually represent themselves and explain their unique business model in a simple and effective way.

To make sure the brand captured VYX’s company voice while elevating them from the rest of their industry, we collected as much information as we could through conversations with the founders, reviewing pitch decks, and doing our own research on companies that manufacture with recycled materials. From there, we created two brand options, the team chose one, and we honed their choice into the brand you see today.
Another facet of this project’s design process was diving into the brand’s iconography. Prior to us working together, the team was having a difficult time visually representing their business model, they knew there was a better way to communicate their system than the icons they were using. As we became more and more familiar with their business, we were able to create an uncomplicated infographic that guides the viewer through old waste management practices into the system VYX aims to create.

We created a Brand Guideline outlining the purpose and usage of their stunning brand and a custom Squarespace website that informs all who visit. They are completely set up with everything they need to grow their company and impact the world.
